It’s a Wrap!!

So the tour ended on a positive note. The Philippine Volcanoes came prepared to play and we played some exciting rugby. The highlight for me was scoring my first international try in the last play of the game. Admittedly it didn’t impact the scoreboard, but at least I can say that I have scored in an international game…that is more than Grant Fox can! After returning to Greensboro, I took some time to rest and recuperate. I didn’t play a lot of rugby this year, but I did have a lot of injuries. A serious AC joint strain, a lower back injury, dislocated kneecap and strained neck. During my active recovery, I joined Bruce as he tried to complete all the Hero workouts from CrossFit.com. Hero workouts are tributes to former CrossFitters who died in the line duty (police, military or fire). Every workout represents an individual who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our way of life. They are hard workouts and sometimes it is a struggle just to finish them. However, when you read the story and the loved ones they have left behind you are proud to have paid tribute to them.

Then my focus shifted to finishing my undergrad degree. The last 5 weeks have been very intense as I finished the last two classes during a compressed summer session. Training took a back seat, as I spent many nights in the library completing work. My goal was to train 3-5 times a week and I was pretty successful doing this. I limited my workout times and managed to balance everything. Today, I finished my last exam, submitted it online and should receive my results by Tuesday. I am really excited because I started my degree back in 1999, sojourned for a few years, then recommitted to while living in Greensboro. I have truly enjoyed my time at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The Bryan School of Business has been great and I have learned a lot.

Now it is time to move on. We are moving to Denver, Colorado because Julie got into a doctoral program at the University of Denver. She will be completing her studies in clinical psychology with an emphasis in sports. This is a great opportunity for her. Fortunately, I was offered a job by Target and was able to transfer my offer to the Denver area. So I will be starting a new chapter, attempting to train while working a full time job.
